Name: Eleanor L. Hedderman Date: July 16th, 1928 - August 25th, 2012 Obituary: Slingerlands-Eleanor Lyons Hedderman died Friday, August 24, 2012 at St. Peter’s Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old. Born in Bronx, NY on July 16, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John A. Lyons, Sr and Margaret M. Shiel. Eleanor moved to Albany with her family in 1939. She graduated from St. Teresa of Avila Grade School and Vincentian Institute. Eleanor earned her bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Vincent College in Riverdale and her master’s degree from State University of New York at Oneonta. After graduation, she taught fourth grade at Public School 20 in North Albany. In 1953, Eleanor married Robert J. Hedderman, Sr. They were married for 23 years until his death in 1976. Eleanor was a communicant of the Church of St. Catherine of Siena (now The Parish of Mater Christi) for 55 years and was active in many parish activities, including the Parish Council. She taught adult religious education for over 20 years. Eleanor is survived by her five children, Dr. Robert J. (Linda) Hedderman of Slingerlands, Thomas J. (Jennifer) Hedderman of Delmar, Dr. Ann M. Hedderman of Indianapolis, IN, James P. (Kathleen) Hedderman of Delmar, and Ellen M. Hedderman of Slingerlands. She was the grandmother “Beep” to Gregory J. Hedderman, Brittany A. Hedderman, Erin Marie Hedderman, Ciaran T. Hedderman and Nora E. Hedderman. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Richard F. (Caryl) Hedderman of Albany and two sisters-in-law Alice Lyons of Loudonville and Carolyn Hedderman of Hot Springs Village, AR, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Hedderman, Sr., brother, John A. Lyons, Jr., sisters-in-law Jane V. (McCormick) Hedderman and Mary E. Hedderman, and brother-in-law, John J. Hedderman. The family would like to extend its thanks to the ICU staff at St. Peter’s Hospital and Dr. Michael Shea for their kindness and care. Special thanks to Dr. Alan Sanders, Dr. David Palat, Dr. Eric Riccario, and Dr. Roy Fruiterman for their care and compassion over many years. Funeral services Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 11:00 am at The Parish of Mater Christi, Albany where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
